Hazel, I'm thinking about you and your sister. Losing sons has been on my mind since reading Libby Purves' "Shadow Child", which is a horribly well written account of grief (she lost a son to suicide - though in her case he was clearly unwell I thin…

So sorry to hear your sad news. There is little anyone can say at times like this but I believe that holding together as a family will help you all come through.

Hello Sharon. Sorry for the late reply. Not ignoring you, just haven't been on the site. Thanks for your message. Our writing group has produced two books, both for charity. I became a member when the second book was being produced and had some of m…

A group for writers to discuss the ups, downs and whatevers of being a writer

I did read this in big chunks over 2 or 3 days and it's still lived with me way too long. Chilling, disturbing, thought-provoking. A brilliant novel.

Welcome!

I'm the founder of Accent Press - set up the company in 2003 having completed an MA in Creative writing at Trinity College. I absolutely love the publishing world - have finally grown-up and discovered what I want to be when I'm older!

We are based 40 minutes north of Cardiff in an old primary school. It's situated at the top of a beautiful valley - great place to live and work. My husband Bob also works (editing and finance) in the company and we have 12 year old triplets.

Hi Hazel, Thanks for the mention about 123 reg - I've been having a good look around. Blackwood Solutions is one. It's all gobblygook haha! A colleague knows someone in the US who is being made redundant and looking to go-it-alone and wants to get a portfolio together, and creating a web for a Brit is something she'd like to do. The webs she has created look impressive and as designing something for me will be her first, she has said pay what I can afford. So here's hoping she accepts my offer .. The web won't have much on there but I can build on it. I would like to have a page with friendly links so if you are OK about it, and this woman can create a page with these, could I add Accent Press link? Cheerio, lesley

Hazel, hello. What an enterprising, writer-friendly site you have here. I already feel at home.

I notice that you're not currently accepting submissions (I wasn't going to be crass and start touting my stuff anyway). That is obviously a sign of success. :)

Hi Hazel
I'm guessing you want me to post my poetry to the group... no problem.

Just one question is there a limit on genre before I shoot straight and offend everyone?

I'd rather be sure.

Back from NZ

Sorry for the silence but have had a devastating bereavement - my 15 year old nephew killed himself and I had to go to New Zealand to be with my sister. It is very tragic as it appears he believed his girlfriend and another friend had already killed themselves but they hadn't. Since then another boy has though http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10570073
So very sad, senseless and, as a mother, frightening.

Great news!

As some of you know, we have been having sleepless nights waiting to see if the wholesaler, Bertrams could find a buyer. Well, they have and we'll now get paid back the large debt they owed us - hurrah!! WH News brought them on Friday so there were celebrations in our house over the weekend.
Hope you have a great week!

IPG Conference

Have spent the weekend in Brighton at the Independent Publishers Guild Conference which was excellent. Have ranked up far too many late nights networking in the bar but it was great to have the chance to talk with the top people at Amazon, Waterstones and Borders. All the retailers are very supportive of indie publishers and proved that by giving up their time this weekend. I find that very exciting - books aren't like tins of beans in as much as a supermarket will probably stock Heinz beans and… Continue

It's snow good for business...

Confession time - I skived off this afternoon to go sledging with my kids. It was utterly beautiful, sun on crisp snow and long wintery shadows. The kids have been home all week and this afternoon I just couldn't resist joining them. Imagine a short, middle-aged dumpy woman giggling madly down steep valley slopes - made my heart sing and the kids laugh their heads off!

Midweek Programme Radio 4 Wednesday 21st January

If you can, please listen out for Louise Medus this Wednesday when she'll be on radio 4's Midweek programme. I'm going too - supposedly to support her but really with the hope of smoozing fellow guest Paul Merton! Louise is incredible - really funny, lovely and down to earth, someone who has grabbed lifes opportunities rather than wallowed in its unfairness. She has no arms or legs but, unaccompanied can drive herself anywhere, and is up for whatever life has to offer.
