Hi everyone. I'm new to this site and to the scene of writing!

As a complete newbie, I'm at the stage where my head is buzzing with ideas, and the pen feels comfortable in the hand. I'm quickly scribbling ideas down as they come in the hope that like my illustrator's sketchbook, ideas may ripen to fruition given time.
I find that some ideas come in the storyboard form of cartoons, sketches or doodles, whilst others, especially when resting in bed, seem to flow from the nib as text.
From there, I modify my adeas and expand on them (where appropriate) using the keyboard, as it's fast enough for me; not as fast as dictation, I don't think that fast!

I'd be interested in hearing how others go about their writing. I know there'll be some similarities of method out there, but we are, after all, individuals with a common cause - to get our writing into print.

What works (and doesn't wotk for you?

HARRY - the illustrator!

Hi to all. Have been poking around the site for a couple of weeks so I thought it was time I introduced myself. I live on a farm in Mid Wales and I guess that makes me a farmer by day but an avid writer by night, and any other spare minute I can grab if the truth be told. I have had some success with short stories, poetry, and articles, all be it very sporadic. I write plays and have been lucky enough to have several performed, however I am still struggling to break into the big one, a published novel. I met with Hazel a few years ago and she kindly told me my writing was of commercial standard, I hang on to to that comment every time I get the rejection slips.
Hoping being with like minded people will keep me focused and encouraged. This seems to be an easy site to navigate and believe me I need easy. Looking forward to talking to you all some more. Chris

Hi all. Just thought I'd introduce myself now that I've enjoyed reading about everyone else on here. I love writing (and reading) fiction and non-fiction.

My memoir 'The Dark Threads' will be published by Accent Press in February 2009 (see my profile page for more details). This year (er, I mean next year - we're still in that funny not-quite-new-year-yet stage) I want to get my novel ready to try for publication. Trouble is I'm not sure which one. I've got the drafts of two novels in a drawer and can't make my mind up whether one, both or neither are worth doing further work on, or if I should start something new.
I also want to improve at writing short stories. I've reached shortlists in national story competitions but not won one (yet - says she optimistically).

Looking forward to chatting on this site.

Hi and Happy New Year to all!!!

I've just moved to a picturesque village in Norfolk and am doing up my den ... I uploaded Kangaroo Land (well, a few chapters) on the Authonomy site but am editing it. It's light hearted, hopefully funny, travel.

Look forward to finishing the oooh, 100th edit and starting something new. If allowed hope to add a chapter on here and would appreciate any comments - I still have lots to learn so easy going comments appreciated. Had a nasty one on Authonomy from a lady who admitted she was having a grumpy day. Oh well. I love writing and that is the main thing. And if I can bring a smile to anyones face, wonderful!!!

Happy Holidays, Lesley

I hope you're all having a great Christmas!
I thought that by joining I would automatically be a member of 'writers', but at least I'm here now. I posted a bit about one of my manuscripts in my blog, as I'm still unsure about how things work on here. Make it as simple as you like, and I'll still have to stop and think 'where to now?'.
Time to explore!

Wow! What an interesting bunch we are! I've really enjoyed reading about everyone and the thing that really shines through is that, despite the hassles of daily life, everyone keeps writing. We must be mad or obsessed.
Have a good week!

Hi my name is Angie. I have four children and alongwith my husband write and publish 2 local monthly magazines. The business is mostly about selling advertising but it has also given me a great chance to get my writing in front of other people (we currently distribute to 35,000 local residents) I really enjoy meeting interesting local people and writing their stories for the magazines. It's quite amazing sometimes who is living almost on your doorstep - for example I recently interviewed a Masa Warrior who now works in Southend hospital - fascinating! I'm determined that in 2009 I will expand my writing career away from just writing for our own magazines and hope to meet people here who can inspire me to keep at it! Nice to meet you all!

Hi all,
I'm Lin. Joined this site yesterday. As with you all here, I write -and am an avid reader. I feel a bit like the new girl reading the comments so far of other members on this thread, you all seem to have been published. I try to write every day if possible, if I can't I get 'withdrawl' symptons, lol. I've written short stories but never sent them away to try and be published. I finished my first novel, a paranormal/mystery, a while ago, and sent the synopsis and first two chapters to a small independent publisher. I've been told I'll hear from them in the new year, so keeping my fingers crossed. In the meantime I'm getting on with writing a second book. Seasons greetings to all.

Hi Everyone!
I'm a fits and spurts writer but can so relate to Caroline the lazy writer !. I love writing even if it's the shopping list although I know that's cheating. I've 2 things on the go at the moment - a children's book which has a mind of its own and 3 helpers - I write it and my kids illustrate it .
I love disappearing into that whole other world and creating something new from scratch. There's a great sense of magic about it - sounds corny I know but we all wear so many different hats these days - no harm having a writers one is there? - I keep buying notebooks and pens as bribes for myself to keep going. Better than chocolate and useful too.
We all think we have a novel in us - I'm on chapter 6 and am encouraged to continue.....One of these days - see what I mean about fits and spurts!!!
